Let us know where your film is, and we’ll do our best to download it. Accepted file formats are listed at the bottom of this page. Send the file or your instructions to submit2013@nwanimationfest.com.

In order of preference, we recommend:

1. WeTransfer.com
Our favorite file sharing service is WeTransfer.com. Sending a big file is as easy as sending an email attachment. It’s free, secure, doesn’t require an account, and has a 2GB limit.

2. FTP Server
If you have your own server, simply provide us with an FTP address, username, and password. If not, inquire and we’ll provide instructions to access ours. Files larger than 2GB are best sent via FTP.

3. Dropbox
Sign up for a free account at Dropbox.com, download the software, upload your file, then “share” the file with submit2013@nwanimationfest.com. There’s a 2GB limit, your files remain private, and no compression is introduced.

4. Vimeo.com
We’re able to download video from Vimeo or YouTube if necessary. Vimeo has a useful setting that can prevent anyone from accessing your film without a password. Both services transcode films during the upload process, so be sure to check that your film has not been visibly degraded.

While various formats are acceptable, we prefer:

File Formats
We accept .MOV, .MP4, and .MV4 files.

Compression
We recommend using the H.264 codec. Other codecs may work, but are more prone to compression artifacts.

Frame Rate
We accept any frame rate — but want 24 or 25fps if you have it. We advise filmmakers in the USA and Canada to STOP producing new films at 30 (29.97) fps. As of 2009/2011 digital television broadcasters are able to transmit 24fps. Blu-ray Discs are also now able to support the 24fps cinematic standard.

Aspect Ratio
We accept any aspect ratio. All films will be displayed in a 16:9 frame, with black bars added as necessary.

Resolution
Please send the highest resolution file you’ve got. A vertical resolution of 1080pixels is ideal. Minimum vertical resolution is 480pixels.
